Rude Awakening
04:00
|
|||
first light on the hilltop when i'm all smiles and serene
is the moment that my reverie is shattered in the blitz
in the pit of my stomach is what i know in my bones
on still nights i have come to depend but now my cover is blown
these silent winds are going lift us up tonight
faint warning shots pushed out of mind it's out of sight
this hypnotic white noise is about to get loud
and when it does this party is going back underground
so get out of the trenches time to get back on the march
the firing squad awaits the parade of those who would complain
i've got a suggestion if you've been given the nod
go line up at the chopping block fast now to collect your reward
these turgid streams are going to wash us out alright
tectonic movement on the rise its dynamite
when we've planted our feet on the ocean floor
we won't be swept up by the current anymore

Out of Orbit
03:37
|
|||
roust yourself dearest we're taking a ride
put on your finest devilish attire
nobody said you'd be pleased in the end
when we're coming up coming up empty again
feast your eyes on these resplendent events
i've steered us clear through to another dead end
so sever my melon and serve it up cold
then you'll move right on up to that rarefied air
oh you'll go where you're lead and we'll see what you're made of
nobody sails through till the cold bitter end
though we breathe the same air i don't always deserve to
the stratosphere beckons that smouldering cloud
out of orbit
out of orbit
strap yourself in for this desperate drive
my motives are pure and the moment is ripe
to put my pedal to the metal and my face to the wind
till i'm hurtling in space at zero gravity
oh you'll go where you're lead and we'll see what you're made of
nobody sails through till the cold bitter end
though we breathe the same air i don't always prefer to
the stratosphere beckons that smouldering cloud
out of orbit
out of orbit

The Lucky Few
03:52
|
|||
portraits decay when you display them in the sun
a body frays when you deprive it of the rains
nobody strays when you deliver on the goods
love doesn't die just on the days you wish it would
if it's all the same to you
then it's all the same to me
and we'll count ourselves among the lucky few
who will bow down and behold the living proof
that nothing can replace the empty bliss
that wanes when you embrace the naked truth
images fade when you extract them from the shade
fortunes decline when you present them with the tide
i've heard it said that there was nothing to presage
that nothing comes when you have slithered through your cage
If it's all the same to you
then it's all the same to me
and we'll count ourselves among the lucky few
who will bow down and behold the living proof
that nothing can replace the empty bliss
that wanes when you embrace the naked truth

Well, I'll Be Damned
04:23
|
|||
breaking from the barren plains was always going set the stage for monumental treason though we swore off surrender
every pitfall pulled us under as we profiteered our way through battered lands
the moment it hits you is the moment that you beg for the cleansing rain upon your shoulders to square off all your debts
we've got to survive this so we can step back in the line of fire from familiar grifters gripping at our loins
as we braved the arid desert to purge the headhunters among us we dive bombed just like sunbeams through the canopy of clouds shrouding the towns that were devoid of inhabitants
and so i'm reminded that we're only ever left
with the blood caked after images of days we once forsook
i'm going to miss you when you take it on the lam
a trail of haunted visages strewn tidily in your wake
i've been salting the truth with some lies for some time
i've been salting the truth with some lies for some time
i've been sifting through riverbeds one at a time
i've been sifting for so very much time
i don't know what you thought that you had surmised
i don't know if you knew what you knew
i'll be damned if you say that this foray ends well
i'll be damned if you say that this foray ends well
i'll be damned if you say that this foray ends well
i'll be damned if you say that it ends

It's Too Early
06:05
|
|||
on the eve of the fall, with buckets of gall
maniacal pariah draws up a case for a sliver of grace
only to break under duress
narcoleptic dream you're going to scream
and soak me for everything i've got
till i cease to parade this exoskeletal facade
mono-tonal barrage worms into my ears
obliterates the inner sanctum of peace
then feeds evermore until i'm hollowed right to the core
slow ascendant moon refashions my mood
especially on those sombre afternoons
when none can resist a little splash into the abyss
you know it's too early for the
break of daylight and besides we're
cannon fodder not real martyrs
mercenaries feel no pain
soak it all in before it gets old
leave your remains by the side of the road
blow them a kiss and send them along
we welcome you back in the folds of our arms
blood sweat and tears on the cuffs of our sleeves
and so we lurch towards the fog
and we will wade through the bogs
we must not inflame it i dare not even name it
but i can taste its rot in the air
soak it all in before it gets old
there was a time when i would circle the skies
opportunistically biding my time
devising plans to seize the vacated heights
but they all took their turns dying on the vine
yeah they all took their turns dying on the vine
so i retreated from the skies I once prized
and since i'd lost the element of surprise
it wasn't long before i met my demise
